最近看到有老師分享學測翻譯題：「飼養寵物不是一項短暫的人生體驗，而是一個對動物的終生承諾」，竟然寫成：「Pet ownership is not a fleeting life experience but involves a lifetime commitment to the animal」。可以理解，英語老師當然希望用最棒最美的英文來呈現，然而我反對這樣嚇死學生。

Relation VS Relationship 關係，英文的意思用法
簡單來說，relation 指的是「關係」，而 relationship 指的是「關係本身」。然而在 webster 字典裡，兩者的解譯完全一樣 (the way in which two or more people, groups, countries, etc., talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other)，必需從例句去理解其微妙的差異。
例如：The incident led to tense international relations. （不強調關係本身，而是強調產生了一種關係）We have a good working relationship. （強調關係本身是好的或壞的）

Suit, Suitable, Fit, Appropriate, Suite, Studio 英文的意思 & 用法
本質上，suit 指適宜某人事物，強調「整體好不好」，而 fit 則是適合人事物，強調「規格合不合」，而 fit 還有一個特殊用法，可以跳過人事物，直接加上目的。
動詞的 suit，意思是「適宜」，注意他後面是接「人」。

髒話的演進：fxxk => effing => freak/frig, shit => crap => poo => crud, god damn it => dang it, hell => heck
effing 其實就是 Fxxking，中文可以說是「該死的、他媽的」意思。而 freak 的意思是「怪物；怪人」，發音與 fxxk 類似，語氣較 effing 更溫和一點，可以用來借位表達。同理，有時候要強調，我們會使用 fxxking ，這時也可以用 freaking 來取代，例如：Here is freaking cold! 最後，k 的因也弱化之後，就變成了 => frigging （原意是幹蠢事，例如：Stop frigging about!)

「做中學, learning by doing」之父 John Dewey 曾說：”I believe that education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.” 既然廣泛閱讀/視聽的教育活動，主要都是在「利用語言來取得娛樂或知識」（也就一種人類真實生活中的活動），那麼我們可以說，廣泛閱讀/視聽其實可以算是一種 learning by doing 的教育方法。
